Propel Your Career Forward

MARLEQ: Your success as a Career Coach is laudable as seen in your working with over 1500 professionals to advance their careers! How did you manage this?

Herjeet Singh: I use a personalized approach as each individual's career goals, strengths, and challenges are unique and different.

I help clients by defining clear and achievable career goals and helping them set both short-term and long-term objectives that align with their skills and interests. I coach them on Resume Writing, Cover Letter, LinkedIn Optimization, SWOT analysis, Interview Preparation, and Job Search Strategies. The clients are accountable for the goals they set.

I may also get them to do a DISC personality test that will help them know themselves better and how to communicate better with others.

I build a strong rapport with clients and offer ongoing support throughout their career journey. This support can include regular check-ins, advice on career decisions, and adapting strategies as circumstances change.

Lastly, I track my clients' progress. This not only helps measure success but also helps me to adjust my coaching strategies.

MARLEQ: Unemployment/underemployment is one of the major challenges facing the public and private sectors. What do you think can be done to fight this?

Herjeet Singh: Addressing unemployment and underemployment is indeed a significant challenge that requires a multi-faceted approach involving both the public and private sectors. Here are some strategies that can be considered to fight these issues:

  • Promote education and training programs that align with the needs of industries and the job market.
  • Encourage lifelong learning to help workers adapt to changing job requirements.
  • Enhance vocational and technical education to equip individuals with practical skills.
  • Foster an environment conducive to entrepreneurship and innovation, encouraging individuals to start their own ventures.
  • Develop better systems for matching job seekers with suitable job opportunities.
  • Establish platforms that provide real-time labor market information to help job seekers make informed decisions.
  • Invest in emerging industries and technologies to stimulate job creation.
  • Encourage companies to offer flexible work arrangements, including remote work and part-time options, to accommodate different needs.

Remember that the effectiveness of these strategies can vary depending on the specific economic, social, and cultural contexts of each region or country. A comprehensive approach that involves cooperation between governments, businesses, educational institutions, and civil society can have a more significant impact on combating unemployment and underemployment.
